Taking responsibility for our health & wellbeing…
Do you take responsibility for your health & wellbeing? I think it’s vital, as our bodies (& brain, heart & soul!) are the ‘machine’ with which we run our lives.
Years ago, when I started running exercise classes & later added massage sessions, I couldn’t work if I wasn’t well… so I couldn’t earn…. There was nothing clever about my focus, nothing clever about not looking after myself… the alternative simply made no sense!
My aim is to pace myself, which means perpetually ‘tuning in’ & adjusting my workload – again, whenever possible. I need to know the early signs of injury, of illnesses, &, of course, I don’t always manage it!! But, broadly, heading for 70, my joints, my weight, my strength & flexibility deliver what I need for everyday life including work. I want this for my clients too, actually, I’d like it for everyone… & it just needs a little bit of commitment & support, which is where my sessions come in! I’m self employed & freelance, so have a lot of control over my timetable, which not everyone does, but it is about exploring the tweaks that are feasible in your life.
I’ve learnt loads from various teachers over the years, from clients too, & also from observing the choices of some of my family members & the ensuing results. In other words, I’ve constantly adjusted the balance in my life & checked the wisdom of my choices!!
I have sacrificed a lot (& gained a lot – as with everything in life?!) & it hasn’t always been easy. I do it because I want to practice what I preach, & I want a body & brain I can depend on for as long as possible…
I see my client’s treatment sessions as an opportunity to explore whether their choices are delivering what they need, or if they could make some simple, cheap changes & build on those. Although the massages may be seen as a ‘luxury’ (up for debate, even at this time…), my ‘add ons’ are mostly very reasonable, as I have lived my life on a pretty tight budget & am not a fan of the commercialisation of the health & wellbeing industry… there’s really no need…
If you like the sound of all that, do get in touch, I’d love to be that support if you want to make some changes…
