Still here… dealing with the loss of connection…
Online, in my ‘public space’, I’ve been silent, though I have had contact with my massage clients, by email, over the last few months. I have had much to say, but not necessarily things I’ve been prepared to utter ‘publicly’ given that this ‘situation’ has impacted everyone in so many different ways.
I have sensed, from the outset, what was happening was a lot like grief, & we all react VERY differently to grief, and process it at different speeds. As with any loss, not all is bad, though sometimes it seems that way at the time… & if someone says something positive ‘too early on’, it can hit a flash point of emotion, as we’re just not ‘there yet’. And, it isn’t for anyone to insist we ‘look on the bright side’, or, equally, we are unfeeling because we feel ‘released’ by a loss.
To say anything useful or relevant since going back to work has felt near on impossible, partly because I was simply exhausted with the new, draining, disconnected way of working… & partly because the views I encountered were poles apart…
My work has filled my soul over the years because it is about CONNECTION, & the joy has come from observing changes in clients through the ‘CONNECTIVE’ aspect of the work – starting with the body, but working with the head & the heart too. It’s been about understanding & explaining to clients how some physical aches/pains/difficulties can be improved by ‘tweaks’ to other parts of their lives.
My huge sadness is that our world now is insisting on being DISCONNECTED, the worst thing we can possibly do… we were already going that way, with more & more virtual contact, but with TOUCH & CONNECTION now illegal… oh my word, for me it is the destruction of everything I believe in, everything that makes my heart sing, everything that allows us to be better people…
I truly hope we can all heal from the devastation this is bringing about, & that we can learn some new ways of living, of valuing CONNECTION (in whatever ways work for us), allowing freedom & respecting nature.
If you feel meeting up for a walk, or perhaps even a phone call or a virtual meetingĀ would be useful, do get in touch! Meanwhile, I’ll see my elite group of delicious massage clients again in December!!
Take care till I next appear in your Inbox – making no promises at this point!
