Massage & your nervous system…

Massage gives your nervous system, your whole being, a chance to say ‘aaahh’,  to let go & relax…

Of course I’m an advocate of massage, as I see again & again, with clients, how the simple act of just lying down already starts the process, never mind the music (or silence) & the delicious smells you can choose. For some, even my arrival, the setting up, the sense of the room being prepared for your relaxation, starts the process.

Touch is a wonderful way of connecting with your body, discovering information from your muscles that is unexpected, or soothing areas that were tender or tight… feeling the lengthening, the stretching, the smoothing out of the kinks (a technical term!). And, whilst I’m doing this, you can pay attention, like a moving meditation, & follow my hands… or you can float off with your thoughts, defrag your brain, share aspects of your life that are not seeming to flow… (though I tend to do this before we start the massage itself, as I love the idea of ‘verbally detoxing’, then the bodywork does the cleansing…)

Even with clients in a work situation, often with my chair, the ‘melting’ begins almost immediately as the chair is designed, specifically to support you fully, so that your nervous system can rest – a chance to ‘do nothing’ – vital for productive work.

And, if you can’t manage a massage (not everyone can, I do realise) – lie down, palm, do a backwards flop at the end of your day, have a bath… rest that nervous system of yours… be kind to yourself…
